At Kids in Philanthropy (KiP), we’re privileged to work alongside incredible charities who help young people in need. One of our partners is Uniting, an organisation committed to helping individuals and families experiencing disadvantage.

Who is Uniting?

Uniting is a leading provider of community services across Australia. They support people facing homelessness, financial hardship, and other challenges, offering vital services such as crisis housing, food relief, and health support.

KiP and Uniting: A Partnership for Impact

KiP has been proud to partner with Uniting for many years, working together to engage young people in social impact initiatives. Recently we collaborated on a program with over 300 students at Woady Yaloak School.

The program was a powerful learning experience for the students providing not only hands-on volunteering and interactive educational workshops, but a chance to engage with local charity partners. Uniting Ballarat visited the school, bringing the ‘Street to Home’ van for students to explore. The ‘Street to Home’ van plays a crucial role for Uniting, providing essentials like food, toiletries, and sleeping bags to individuals living rough in the Ballarat region. Students saw first-hand the resources Uniting provides to people in need to improve their quality of life.

This visit sparked curiosity, compassion, and critical thinking whilst building students’ wellbeing, resilience, and empathy. Students reflected on the challenges faced by those experiencing homelessness and expressed their ideas and questions about how they could help. Inspired by what they learned, the students went on to prepare over 560 morning tea bags for Uniting to distribute – a remarkable effort that created real world impact for their community. Through this hands on volunteering, students developed their team work, communication and leadership skills.

Why work with Charity Partners?

Having charity partners like Uniting visit schools amplifies the impact of KiP’s programs. These interactions connect students to their community and help build their awareness of social issues and challenges that people are facing, including homelessness and housing instability, food insecurity, and unemployment. For Woady Yaloak students, the visit was more than an activity – it was a transformative experience that deepened their understanding of social justice and helped them realise that they can be changemakers and make a difference to people in need.

If you’d like to bring charities like Uniting into your school and inspire young changemakers, get in touch with KiP today. Together, we can empower students to create positive change in their communities and beyond.
