Kids in Philanthropy (KiP) delivers a range of customisable programs that support young people experiencing disadvantage and improve their quality of life.
Our programs provide those experiencing hardship with access to essential items and engage young people in social justice and philanthropy. Our programs provide educational workshops as well as practical experiences for participants to donate their time, talent, and treasure to help those in their community experiencing disadvantage.
Programs can range from 60-minute workshops to multi-day experiences, built around your school, community or organisation context, priorities, and availability.
Our Programs for Young People
Kindness Program
This is our core program for this experiencing hardship and disadvantage. It focuses on cultivating compassion and empathy, emphasizing their significance in fostering a supportive and connected community. It incorporates workshops dedicated to promoting kindness and raising awareness of the diverse challenges individuals encounter, including those within the school community.
The Kindness Program features a “keep and give” model, where students engage in creating items such as scarves, meal kits, and cards of hope. They retain one of each item for themselves while donating the duplicates to charities for distribution to those in need.
Agents for Change
Our AFC program seamlessly integrates volunteering and education to deliver a comprehensive and captivating experience for students.
The program includes various components, such as an orientation to our charity partners, educational sessions aimed at deepening understanding of philanthropy’s role, interactive workshops to enhance students’ ability to articulate the significance of contributing their time, talent, and resources, and hands-on volunteering opportunities where students actively participate in preparing goods for those experiencing disadvantage.
Gift of Giving
During the season of giving we empower young people to give back to their community! Join us in the countdown to Easter, Pesach, Christmas, Ramadan, or any other festive occasion.
Through our “Gift of Giving” program, we collaborate with charities to offer hands-on volunteering initiatives, ensuring that young individuals in need and their families receive essential supplies, messages of hope, and other necessities to support them during the holiday season.
Participants not only contribute to the joy of giving but also experience a boost in wellbeing, empathy, and happiness.
Pitch for Change
This is a dynamic program designed to inspire a new generation of philanthropists and changemakers.
Through fundraising, philanthropic giving, funding decisions, and hands-on volunteering, participants engage with three grassroots charities, gaining firsthand insight into their impactful work within the community and then decide on who they want to support with a pre-determined philanthropic gift.
Pitch for Change isn’t just an activity; it’s a conversation starter. It sparks dialogue among children about the issues plaguing our communities and the power each individual holds to effect change. It’s a journey of discovery, empathy, and empowerment.
Other Initiatives
Professional Development & Training
Our professional development and training programs are develop to bolster the confidence of teachers and other community leaders to foster the engagement of young people in philanthropy and social justice initiatives.
These programs can be tailored to meet your needs and align with your school, community or organisations’ strategic plan and objectives.
Learning Journeys
We firmly believe that the most effective path toward realizing our vision of a more empathetic and interconnected world is through immersive learning journeys.
These journeys offer young people the chance to participate in various KiP programs, fostering a culture of philanthropy and social justice that becomes ingrained in their worldviews and actions.
We can work with you to build learning journeys that empower young people to deepen their connection to the community, enhance their well-being, and further their leadership and interpersonal skills. For schools, these journeys can be aligned to the curriculum.
Gift of Giving
This event is all about bringing families together through hands-on volunteering to create a little bit of joy for those doing it tough during the holiday period.
Learn about how others less fortunate may be spending the holiday period, and get involved by helping us pack care kits, make sweet treats, and create holiday surprises to be taken out on the streets of Melbourne and donated to Homes and Centres that need a little cheer.
Gift of Giving is an opportunity to engage families at your school, workplace, or community group. Get in touch if you want to find out more!
Pitch for Change
Pitch for Change is an event that has a focus on fundraising, philanthropic giving, funding decisions, and volunteering.
Participants are given an opportunity to be involved with three different grassroots charities, all of which include a hands-on volunteering element.
Participants will learn about what the charities do for the community and will then decide on who they want to support with a pre-determined philanthropic gift. This is a great conversation starter with children about the allocation of finite resources, which types of social problems they want to help solve and the issues that exist within our community. It is also a wonderful opportunity to engage in an intimate and meaningful way with the charities involved.
Pitch for Change can be run at your school, workplace or community group. Get in touch if you want to find out more!
Volunteering Sessions
KiP run a number of bespoke hands-on volunteering sessions (open to the public) throughout the year catered to children and their families. These sessions range from packing care kits to making scarves for our friends living on the streets. We work with a number of local grass-root organisations and endeavour to create a session that provides meaning to the charity as well as those participating.
School Incursions
Agents for Change is a tailor-made program for schools to inspire and help shape future leaders. By fostering the values and ideals associated with philanthropy, our program will help create a positive context for an entire generation of young Australians, giving them the exposure and opportunities to take up responsibilities, learn leadership skills and, ultimately, make a difference in the world.
Agents for Change is customised to your school’s needs, areas of study, curriculum, and timetable. We offer workshops for students ranging from 1 hour through to a unit-based project that is implemented over a term.
From our extensive research and practice in this area, we have identified that children between the ages of 5 to 15 years have an emerging sense of self and are at an age that is appropriate for growth and achievement through new challenges. We have seen that kids quickly understand the essence of social enterprise and innovation and are driven to use this passion to change society for the better.
Hangout for the Homeless
Here at KiP, we don’t think it’s right that there are Australian youths without a safe and secure place to sleep at night. So, every year, we come together as a community to empower change and this event is called Hangout for the Homeless.
The Hangout sleep rough event is where we ask you to give up your bed for the night to raise money and awareness for youth homelessness in Australia.
Hangout Hands On is a hands-on volunteering session (typically held on the afternoon of the sleep rough event). It is all about giving back to our friends living on the street and those in need. This is a great event to complement sleeping rough, or an ideal way to get involved for those not quite ready to give up their bed!
Please note – Hangout for the Homeless is transitioning to a school-led event where your school can design and deliver your own version of this event to help your local community. Get in touch if you want to find out more!
